On Monday, the Supreme Court demanded a response from Karnataka's Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, concerning a plea challenging his 2023 election victory in the Varuna assembly constituency.

The notice was issued by a bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta after a petition was filed by K Shankara, who accused Siddaramaiah of corrupt practices.

This plea comes after the Karnataka High Court, on April 22, dismissed Shankara's attempt to have Siddaramaiah's election declared void under the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
