In a significant breakthrough, law enforcement officials have apprehended four cyber fraudsters accused of defrauding a cancer patient of Rs 1.30 lakh. The arrests come after the suspects allegedly posed as representatives of the Insurance Ombudsman and the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).

The fraudulent scheme targeted policyholders who were expecting insurance refunds or premium settlements, tricking them into paying 'processing charges.' Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel reported that the suspects defrauded KP Tomar, who had purchased four health insurance policies in 2024, but faced financial challenges due to medical expenses.

Following an intense investigation, which involved scrutinizing technical details and money trails, the police arrested Devender Kumar and Arun Kumar after tracing funds through multiple accounts. The operation culminated in recovering mobile phones and a debit card used in the fraudulent activities, with further investigations ongoing.
