Malkangiri district authorities in Odisha lifted prohibitory orders on Saturday following a violent clash in two villages, but extended the suspension of internet services till Monday noon, according to district officials.
District Collector Somesh Kumar Upadhyay and SP Vinodh Patil H announced the lifting of restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) around MV-26 village, but said internet services would remain suspended for 36 more hours to ensure stability.
The clashes erupted after the discovery of a 51-year-old tribal woman's decapitated body, leading to significant unrest. Damage estimated at Rs 4 crore was inflicted, primarily targeting Bengali settlers' homes. Authorities have arrested six people and are working with community leaders to restore peace. Relief efforts are underway for the 240 affected families.
