The Indian government has announced its decision to establish dedicated National Investigation Agency (NIA) courts across states and Union territories, aiming to expedite the trial process for those charged under anti-terror laws.
During a Supreme Court hearing, the Delhi government confirmed the creation of 16 special courts in the capital to address organised crime and terror-related cases. Additionally, the court urged the enactment of a more stringent law similar to MCOCA, addressing jurisdictional discrepancies within the National Capital Region (NCR).
The Chief Justice highlighted how criminals exploit jurisdictional issues, slowing down legal proceedings. The Centre and Delhi government were asked to reinforce their legal architecture, with new infrastructure and judicial appointments underway. This initiative aims to ensure that heinous cases with national implications receive focused and rapid legal attention.
