Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has launched a scathing attack on the Modi government's recent legislative move to replace the MGNREGA scheme with the newly introduced VB-G RAM G Bill. He accused the administration of dismantling two decades of rural employment guarantees within a day, and dubbed the legislation 'anti-village.'
According to Gandhi, the new bill transforms a previously rights-based and demand-driven scheme into a rationed program, centrally controlled from Delhi. He claimed this change would strip rural workers of their bargaining power, endanger women's livelihoods, and disproportionately affect marginalized communities, including Dalits, OBCs, and Adivasis.
Gandhi also criticized the government's tactics in passing the bill, alleging it was 'bulldozed' through Parliament without adequate scrutiny. The move, he argues, jeopardizes India's social contract with its rural workforce and is designed to centralize power while weakening labor rights.
