The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday addressed the issue surrounding a notice sent to former Navy chief Admiral Arun Prakash (retd) during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Goa. The ECI stated that Prakash's enumeration form lacked critical details from the previous SIR.
After settling in Goa post-retirement, the Vir Chakra awardee was asked to attend a meeting for identity verification as part of the SIR of electoral rolls. This raised concerns among netizens, especially retired military personnel, who questioned the necessity of such a notice.
Electoral Registration Officer Dr. Medora Ermomilla D'Costa explained that the absence of key identification details like EPIC number, Assembly Constituency and other particulars resulted in the form being classified as 'unmapped.' Consequently, Prakash received a system-generated notice to verify his eligibility. The ECI aims to ensure accurate electoral roll maintenance through a structured, standardized process.
