Opposition parties in Punjab have launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, accusing it of leveraging state mechanisms to suppress the press. The accusations follow complaints from the Punjab Kesari newspaper group about multiple raids by enforcement authorities.
Prominent leaders, including Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, condemned the alleged suppressive actions, asserting that the ruling party is attempting to silence independent media outlets. BJP state president Sunil Jakhar also condemned the government's actions, signaling a planned delegation meeting with the governor on the issue.
SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal warned that such moves reflect a government's unease when it faces criticism and opposition. The Punjab government, however, dismissed the accusations, calling them baseless. Despite official denials, the controversy intensifies as more voices join in decrying these alleged attacks on journalistic freedoms.
