The Supreme Court has dismissed the plea of Allahabad High Court judge Yashwant Varma, who challenged the Lok Sabha Speaker's decision to admit a removal motion against him. This verdict was delivered by a bench composed of Justices Dipankar Datta and SC Sharma.
The case centers on allegations of corruption against Justice Varma, stemming from incidents involving burnt currency found at his official residence. After rejecting similar motions in the Rajya Sabha, the Lok Sabha Speaker proceeded to form an inquiry committee.
Despite objections regarding the jurisdiction of parliamentary positions to reject such motions, the court upheld the legality of the proceedings, setting a course for potential impeachment, following findings of misconduct by a judicial committee.
