The local court wrapped up the testimony of a significant prosecution witness in the tragic 2024 Hathras stampede case, which claimed 121 lives and left many others injured. The session was presided over by Additional Sessions Judge Mahendra Srivastava, focusing on the testimony of Narendra Singh, head constable with the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU).
The disastrous incident occurred on July 2, 2024, during a satsang organized by religious figure Surajpal, also known as 'Bhole Baba,' between Mughalgarhi and Phulrai villages. In the chaos, several women and children were caught in the deadly stampede, leading to widespread tragedy and outcry.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) charged 11 individuals, including Bhole Baba's aide, Devprakash Madhukar. While all accused have been granted bail, trial proceedings are actively progressing. The court is meticulously examining evidence that extends over 3,200 pages as efforts continue to bring justice to the disaster's victims.
