Several tribals from the Sanjay Gandhi National Park vicinity staged a protest outside the residence of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Thane city. The protest was organized against the demolition of their hamlets, which they claim have been their homes for generations.
The tribals condemned the administration's action of razing their dwellings, which took place on Monday. Late at night, they gathered outside Shinde's home, demanding a pause in demolitions until the implementation of the 2018 rehabilitation plan and resettlement of affected families.
Vivek Pandit, chairperson of the state tribal development committee, emphasized that no demolitions should occur until the state fulfills its rehabilitation promises. Subsequently, following assurances from the authorities for a discussion on the plan, the tribals decided to call off the protest, according to a representative from the leading social organization.
