Senators Urge Trump to Curb Chinese Automakers

Three Democratic senators urged President Trump to prohibit Chinese automakers from establishing operations in the US and to prevent imports from Mexico or Canada, citing potential economic disadvantages for American manufacturers and possible national security risks.

On Friday, three Democratic senators called on President Donald Trump to impose restrictions on Chinese automakers seeking to establish a foothold in the United States.

Senators Tammy Baldwin, Elissa Slotkin, and Chuck Schumer referenced comments made by Trump in January, expressing openness toward Chinese vehicles being manufactured in U.S. factories.

In a letter highlighted by Reuters, the lawmakers warned that allowing these manufacturers in would not only disadvantage American carmakers but could also instigate a national security crisis.
