Nepal has established a three-member committee to assess the role of its security forces in enforcing a report concerning last year's Gen-Z protests. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, where a former High Court judge, Prem Raj Karki, was appointed to lead the panel, government spokesperson Sasmit Pokharel confirmed.
Joining Karki on the panel are former Armed Police Force Additional Inspector General Subodh Adhikari and former Nepal Police Additional Inspector General Tek Prasad Rai. According to Pokharel, who also serves as Education Minister, the group is responsible for studying security-related issues that arose while executing the report by the investigation commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki.
The probe commission was initially formed to investigate the Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9, during which 76 individuals lost their lives. The newly formed panel will review the security apparatus's operations in light of the commission's findings and provide recommendations accordingly.
