Ensuring Farmers' Access: Mandatory Service Roads in Infrastructure Projects

Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Maharashtra's Revenue Minister, has implemented a new directive mandating the construction of service roads for farmers impacted by infrastructure projects such as railways. This action seeks to ensure that farmers whose access routes have been disrupted can still reach their fields with ease.

The decision was made following a meeting at Mantralaya to review issues faced by farmers in Dhule district, particularly concerning the Manmad-Indore Railway project. Discussions highlighted the challenges of land acquisition and the necessity for unobstructed agricultural access. Bawankule emphasized the importance of constructing a service road alongside the railway line when farmers' access routes are interrupted.

Affected farmers have been given a final opportunity to submit claims and documentation to the district collector within a 15-day deadline. The directive stresses the need for attention to small farmers and those with wells on their land, with district collectors held responsible for diligent planning. An official circular on the mandate will be issued soon.
