The Mizoram Cabinet has endorsed significant updates to the Inner Line Pass (ILP) system this Monday. These revisions are designed to enhance the regulation and monitoring of non-resident entry into the state, an official confirmed. The meeting, conducted by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, concluded with the approval of new ILP guidelines set for 2026.
The framework, although not yet publicly detailed, aims at refining the procedures for ILP issuance, monitoring, and enforcement. This travel document, essential for non-tribal citizens entering Mizoram, operates under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873. The initiative primarily seeks to safeguard the state's indigenous identity and cultural demographic profile.
Concerns over rising violations of the ILP system prompted prominent organizations such as the Young Mizo Association and Mizo Zirlai Pawl to advocate for stricter policies. In light of increasing tourist inflow since the railway's extension to Sairang near Aizawl, the cabinet further ratified the Mizoram Startup Policy, a fireworks regulation bill, and several urban development projects.
