The Odisha Gymnastics Association is facing a probe after reportedly securing funds using the name of a deceased president. Allegations have emerged that the association continued to use the name of Samir Dey, who passed away in 2024, in official communications with the state government.

Questions have surfaced about the association's management as it obtained nearly Rs 98 lakh from the Odisha government for the 2026 National Gymnastics Championships. Invoices exceeding Rs 1.96 crore, featuring Dey's name as president, were highlighted in a complaint, raising accountability concerns.

The association's general secretary, Ashok Sahoo, acknowledged using old letterheads but emphasized that the leadership had changed. Despite ongoing issues, the administration has yet to print updated materials, and new elections compliant with the National Sports Code are expected by August.

Further controversy surrounds alleged dual funding from multiple agencies, prompting calls for an independent investigation. Past concerns include irregular election cycles and limited transparency in budgeting and event management. An inquiry is urged to ensure accountability and appropriate utilization of public sports funds.
