The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract worth Rs 449 crore with Bengaluru-based Accord Software and Systems Private Limited (ASSPL) for the procurement of 20 Enhanced Capability Global Navigation Satellite System (ECGNSS) Jammers for the Indian Navy.
The agreement was signed on June 10 in New Delhi in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. The project will be executed under the Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category and includes a minimum indigenous content requirement of 75 percent. The deal represents another step in India's push to strengthen domestic defence manufacturing while reducing dependence on foreign military technology.
Advanced systems designed for modern electronic warfare
The ECGNSS Jammers are designed to counter satellite-based navigation systems used by adversaries during military operations. The technology can disrupt the acquisition and tracking of satellite signals by enemy Global Navigation Satellite System receivers, making it harder for hostile forces to accurately navigate or target assets.
The systems are also capable of signal spoofing and deceptive jamming, techniques that can mislead adversary navigation equipment by transmitting false information. Such capabilities have become increasingly important as modern military operations rely heavily on satellite-based positioning, navigation, and timing services.
Defence officials believe the new systems will help Indian Navy vessels operate more safely and effectively in complex threat environments where electronic warfare capabilities play a critical role.
Boost for self-reliance and maritime security
The contract highlights the government's continued focus on the Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives, which aim to build a stronger domestic defence industrial base. By sourcing advanced military equipment from an Indian company, the project is expected to contribute to local technological development and strengthen indigenous defence capabilities.
Officials described the agreement as an important milestone in the ongoing effort to modernise India's armed forces while promoting homegrown innovation in critical defence technologies.
The induction of the ECGNSS Jammers is expected to enhance the country's maritime security architecture and provide the Indian Navy with improved protection against emerging electronic and satellite-based threats in future operational scenarios.
