Britain Sanctions Hezbollah's Al-Qard Al-Hassan Amid Trade Ban Announcement

Britain's foreign minister, Ed Miliband, announced sanctions on Hezbollah-run financial institution Al-Qard Al-Hassan and a trade ban on products made in Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. This follows Lebanon's central bank's decision last year to prohibit banks from dealing with Al-Qard Al-Hassan, which claims to provide loans based on Islamic principles forbidding interest.

In a significant diplomatic move, Britain's foreign minister Ed Miliband declared sanctions against Hezbollah-affiliated financial entity Al-Qard Al-Hassan. This development is part of measures aiming to restrict economic interactions linked to contentious regions.

In his announcement on Tuesday, Miliband also stated that the UK would impose a trade ban on goods produced in Israeli settlements located in the occupied West Bank. This decision underscores the UK's stance on international trade ethics concerning occupied territories.

Last year, Lebanon's central banking authority prohibited financial institutions from engaging with Al-Qard Al-Hassan, which labeled itself as a charity, providing interest-free loans under Islamic tenets. This indicates broader regional apprehensions about the organization's financial activities.
