On the upcoming rural polls, he said: “The block leaders won't decide the candidature. Mamata Banerjee will decide that.” The Diamond Harbour MP, while referring to his often-repeated phrase of a “new Trinamool”, said in the next few years, the party needs to make sure that it consistently works for the people. “The leaders endorsed by the people will be our candidates,” he said.

Abhishek Banerjee also alleged that goons who once worked for the CPI(M) have now joined hands with the BJP.
