Irked by the Congress-led opposition decision to boycott all LDF events, including the inauguration of the Vaikom Satyagraha centenary celebrations and the second anniversary of the Left government in Kerala, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday accused the UDF of taking an anti-development stand. The opposition front, earlier in the day, announced it would stay away from the anniversary celebrations of the second Pinarayi Vijayan dispensation, as part of its demonstrations against the ruling LDF's various allegedly ''anti-people'' policies and ''unjustified and unscientific'' budget proposals. Lashing out at the opposition for its stand, Vijayan said that the UDF has turned boycotting into a ''job''. ''They are blindly boycotting and opposing everything,'' he said and alleged that the opposition has a ''narrow'' mindset which is not happy when good things and development takes place in the State. Vijayan did not spare the BJP-ruled Centre either in his speech here on the occasion of the second anniversary celebration of LDF government and the inauguration of the 'My Kerala 2023' exhibition and marketing fair. He said that the BJP-ruled Centre was adopting economic policies which only served to financially choke Kerala by cutting off its various sources of tax revenue, besides levying various cess and surcharges from which no share goes to the State.

Moreover, the Central government has also cut down the various allocations to the State, he claimed. ''However, the Congress-led UDF did not say one word inside or outside the Parliament against such policies which put Kerala in financial difficulty,'' he alleged. ''They want the State to be destroyed and the people to suffer,'' Vijayan further alleged. He also outlined the various developmental works carried out by the Left government in the State and said that even the constituencies of the UDF MLAs benefited from it, ''Despite that they are interested only in obstructing and opposing the State government's work,'' he claimed. The Kerala Chief Minister said that the LDF got an unprecedented second successive stint at power thanks to the trust reposed in it by the people who appreciated the developmental work done by the Left government in the State. The Congress is uneasy over the good work being done by the Left government and the support of the people it enjoys, he said. He urged people to cooperate with and support the various steps being taken by the State government for the development of Kerala.
