CPI(M) Calls for Vigilance Amid Election Setback for BJP

The CPI(M) claimed the Lok Sabha poll result was a setback for the BJP, which failed to get an absolute majority. The party urged the opposition INDIA bloc to remain vigilant against 'Hindutva authoritarianism'. Despite slight gains, the Left parties were disappointed with their overall performance, particularly in Kerala.

The CPI(M) on Monday characterized the latest Lok Sabha election results as a significant setback for the BJP, which fell short of an absolute majority. Addressing this, the CPI(M) called for the opposition INDIA bloc to stay vigilant against what they termed 'Hindutva authoritarianism' employing 'fascistic methods'.

Following a meeting of its Politburo on Sunday, the CPI(M) expressed disappointment over its electoral performance, noting marginal gains in parliamentary representation. The Left party specifically pointed out its poor showing in Kerala.

'This election result is a remarkable blow to the BJP,' the CPI(M) stated. 'The citizens of India have upheld the Constitution and the republic's secular democratic ethos, denying the BJP the majority it once held in the 2014 and 2019 elections.'
