Canadian Envoy Condemns Violent Imagery Amidst Strained India-Canada Ties

In a significant diplomatic development, Canadian envoy to India Cameron MacKay condemned the promotion of violence after a float depicting the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was showcased at an event in Greater Toronto. This display has further frayed the already strained bilateral relations between India and Canada.

India has promptly taken up the matter with Canadian authorities. According to MacKay's statement on X, 'Canada's position is clear: The promotion of violence is never acceptable in Canada.'

The float was part of a parade marking the 40th anniversary of Operation Bluestar in Brampton. The incident has reignited India's demand for Canada to crack down on pro-Khalistani elements operating from its soil. Diplomatic tensions had previously escalated after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations in September last year regarding India's involvement in the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
