Tensions High as Six Candidates File Nominations for Jalandhar West Bypoll

Jalandhar West is bracing for a high-stakes by-election as six candidates, including the BJP's Sheetal Angural, officially filed their nomination papers on Thursday. This crucial bypoll was necessitated by Angural's resignation as an AAP legislator, which was formally accepted by the Punjab Assembly Speaker on May 30.
In addition to Angural, nominations were submitted by Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) candidate Sarabjit Singh, BSP's Bindar Kumar, and Rashtriya Ekta Party's Iqbal Chand, confirmed District Election Officer-cum Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal. Two more independent candidates also joined the fray, bringing the total count of contenders to nine.
The by-election is scheduled for July 10, with the vote counting taking place on July 13. The deadline for filing nominations is June 21, followed by a scrutiny period on June 24 and the final date for withdrawal on June 26.
