A gunman who opened fire at former President Donald Trump during an election rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday acted alone, according to the FBI's ongoing investigation. The act is being treated as potential domestic terrorism.

The assailant, Thomas Matthew Crooks, aged 20, has been identified by authorities. The FBI's National Security Branch executive assistant director Robert Wells emphasized the investigation's preliminary conclusion, stating Crooks appeared to be a lone actor. Wells pointed out the ongoing joint efforts of the FBI's counterterrorism and criminal divisions to ascertain the motive.

Trump sustained a minor injury from the bullet that grazed his right ear but has since resumed his campaign activities, including attending the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. FBI Director Christopher Wray condemned the act as an attack on democracy and maintained that, despite the shooter's potential death, the investigation would continue rigorously.
