The BJP's count in the Rajya Sabha has fallen below 90 for the first time in recent years. However, with upcoming by-elections to fill existing vacancies, the party and its allies anticipate recapturing lost ground and gaining additional seats.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is poised to win two seats each in Bihar, Maharashtra, and Assam, as well as one seat each in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Tripura. The four new nominated members are expected to favor the treasury benches, further boosting BJP’s chances.
Currently, the Rajya Sabha has 226 members with the BJP holding 86 seats. The Congress follows with 26 seats, and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has 13 seats, with 19 vacancies remaining. Despite these challenges, the BJP is confident of reclaiming its strength and pushing its legislative agenda with the support of unaligned parties such as YSR Congress and BJD.
