Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday exhorted BJP MPs from Maharashtra to step up public engagement and actively counter the opposition's propaganda against the government.

Modi met members of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra, discussing their parliamentary experiences, especially with the first-time MPs. The BJP currently has four new term Lok Sabha members – Murlidhar Mohol, Anup Dhotre, Hemant Savara, and Smita Wagh.

The prime minister emphasized the importance of promoting the schemes and initiatives announced in the Union Budget and urged MPs to counter misinformation spread by the opposition, as per parliamentary sources. He encouraged MPs to engage at the grassroots level and connect with voters at every booth.

Union ministers and senior BJP leaders Nitin Gadkari and Piyush Goyal were also present at the meeting. In the recent Lok Sabha elections, BJP secured 9 of the 28 seats it contested, compared to 23 seats in 2019.

BJP's ally, Shiv Sena, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, won 7 out of the 15 contested seats, while Ajit Pawar-led NCP secured victory in one of the four contested seats. The assembly elections in Maharashtra are set for September-October, with BJP announcing it will contest in alliance with Shiv Sena and NCP.
