Former US President and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has refused to debate Democratic rival and Vice President Kamala Harris until the Democrats formally decide on their nominee. Harris, on her part, voiced her readiness for the debate, stressing that voters deserve the opportunity to witness the contrasting views on stage.
Speaking to reporters, Harris stated, "You have been asking me about the debate and I'll tell you I'm ready to debate Donald Trump. I have agreed to the previously agreed upon September 10 debate." She highlighted that Trump had initially agreed to the debate, and accused him of backpedaling.
Steven Cheung, Trump Campaign Communications Director, cited ongoing political uncertainty within the Democratic Party as the reason for the delay. He indicated that prominent Democrats, including Barack Obama, have reservations about Harris. Consequently, finalizing debate details remains on hold.
Trump and Harris had initially agreed to debates on June 27 and September 10, with Biden dropping out of the race after a poor performance. Fox News has now proposed a new debate date of September 17 in Pennsylvania.
