BJP MP Apologizes for Caste Remarks Amidst Heated Debate

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Tuesday addressed the contentious remarks on caste made by former Union minister Anurag Thakur against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha, issuing an apology on Thakur's behalf.

During the debate on the Finance Bill, Dubey expressed disagreement with Thakur’s comments and offered his apologies. 'The allegation he made about caste is wrong.... There is no caste. He (Gandhi) says, I am not what I appear.... So he is a hermit,' Dubey stated, highlighting a traditional sentiment against questioning a hermit's caste.

Dubey further critiqued the Congress's advocacy for a nationwide caste census, questioning its inclusivity for those who do not adhere to caste or religious identities. He also scrutinized the Congress’s historical stance on reservation policies, implying a covert agenda to extend reservations to religious minorities.
