Vice President Kamala Harris holds a perceived edge over former President Donald Trump in several leadership characteristics, according to a new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. Attributes such as honesty and commitment to democracy are areas where Harris outperforms Trump, though the public remains divided on whom to trust more in the upcoming election.
About half of Americans believe Harris is committed to democracy and consider her disciplined, while only about three in ten see Trump this way. When asked about caring for people like them, Americans again give Harris the edge over Trump.
Meanwhile, Trump maintains a slight advantage in handling the economy and immigration, particularly among independents. However, Harris shines on issues surrounding race, healthcare, and abortion policy, particularly among Democrats, independents, and women. The poll highlights a sharp contrast in enthusiasm among Democrats and independents, with more support and excitement for Harris compared to the previous Democratic candidate, Joe Biden.
