In a surprising turn of events in the Haryana assembly elections, the Indian National Congress, while trailing behind the dominant Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saw former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda secure a commanding victory in the Garhi Sampla-Kiloi constituency with a margin of 71,465 votes. Hooda's triumph comes amid an overall BJP lead asserted by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday.
Another notable win for the Congress was achieved by leader Aditya Surjewala in the Kaithal assembly seat, where he defeated BJP's Leela Ram by 8,124 votes, leading to celebrations among his supporters. Concurrently, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini expressed gratitude towards the state's electorate, highlighting BJP's approach toward achieving a third consecutive victory in the region.
The electoral proceedings drew allegations from Congress over inaccuracies in the vote counting progress displayed on the ECI's website, which were refuted by the Election Commission. In its formal response, the ECI emphasized that the vote counting activities were conducted in accordance with the established statutory rules, maintaining transparency and accountability in the presence of official observers.
