In a move resonating with local sentiment, BJP MLA Anil Sharma on Thursday pledged to advocate for the renaming of Mohammadpur village in the RK Puram constituency to Madhavpuram. The renaming proposal, initially passed by the municipal corporation, has been stalled in the Assembly for some time but is poised to be revisited, Sharma assured.
When pressed on the motivation for the name change, Sharma cited popular demand, asserting, "People demand that this village should be named Madhavpuram. This government was formed to reflect the people's will, and steps will be taken to meet their expectations." He anticipates bringing the proposal to formal discussion, contingent on the Speaker's approval, either immediately or by Monday.
Alongside the renaming issue, Sharma raised urgent infrastructure concerns within the constituency, spotlighting severe water and sewerage challenges. These issues, Sharma stressed, require immediate government intervention to mitigate the difficulties faced by the residents in villages like RK Puram, where inadequate sewage management is a chronic problem.
