The Odisha Assembly was plunged into chaos on Tuesday, with BJP MLA Jayanarayan Mishra condemning the disruption, describing it as "unfortunate" while emphasizing the state government's development agenda. Mishra reported that a fellow legislator had broken a minister’s microphone during a response session.
Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra condemned the incident as a violation of constitutional principles, expressing dismay at a Congress leader's attempt to damage parliamentary property. Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati countered, accusing BJP counterparts of physical intimidation.
Outside the assembly, Congress MLAs, led by Sofia Firdous, protested against what they allege as rising crimes against women in Odisha, calling for enhanced safety measures. They vowed to persistently raise these issues, despite perceived governmental distractions. Statistics highlighting an increase in crimes, including gang rapes, were presented by Congress MP Saptagiri Ulaka in the Lok Sabha, painting a grim picture of the state's law and order situation.
