In a significant political development, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is currently under the scanner, as opposition parties have raised concerns regarding its neutrality. Congress MP Manickam Tagore alleged that the apex poll body lost its impartial stance during the tenure of former Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, citing pressure from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Adding to the critical voices, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant expressed distrust in the ECI's decisions, questioning its recognition process and legal adherence. Meanwhile, Congress MP Rajani Patil cautiously welcomed the Commission's recent initiatives to mend ties with political parties and enhance credibility.

The Election Commission has reached out to both national and state political parties, seeking suggestions to improve electoral processes by April 30. This outreach comes as opposition factions, including the Congress and Biju Janata Dal, critique the handling of voter lists, amidst calls for accountability and transparency in the electoral system.
