On Wednesday, tensions flared in Mizoram as opposition Congress workers clashed with police while attempting to demonstrate against Chief Minister Lalduhoma. The protest centered around what the Congress labeled as 'false accusations' made by the Chief Minister against one of their legislators.
Reports from Dr. Lalmalsawma Nghaka, state Congress treasurer, claim that the clash resulted in two party activists being injured, necessitating their admission to a private hospital. Meanwhile, the police maintained that only minimal force was employed to prevent demonstrators from approaching the assembly, where protests are prohibited during sessions.
The altercation has further amplified calls for an apology from the Chief Minister, as Congress leader TT Zothansanga accused Lalduhoma of lowering the prestige of the Assembly by engaging in personal attacks. The controversy centers around claims regarding corruption and potential legal actions involving Congress's C Ngunlianchunga.
