In a dramatic turn of events, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh filed a privilege notice against Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Ramesh accused Shah of making derogatory remarks about former Congress President Sonia Gandhi during a debate on the Disaster Management Bill, 2024.
The Congress leader alleged that Shah's comments were aimed at tarnishing Gandhi's reputation, accusing her of misuse of funds related to past relief efforts. The notice was submitted under Rule 188, citing a breach of privilege and contempt of the House.
Ramesh expressed grave concern over Shah's indirect references to Sonia Gandhi during his speech, interpreting it as a political attack. Meanwhile, Gandhi herself has been vocal in addressing issues like maternity benefit allocations, pointing out discrepancies in the government budget.
