Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has voiced strong opposition to reports of US intelligence activities in Greenland, describing the notion of spying on an ally as unacceptable. These comments follow allegations that the United States has heightened its efforts to gather information on Greenland, a region semi-autonomous to Denmark.
Reports by the Wall Street Journal suggest that under the direction of US intelligence head Tulsi Gabbard, American agencies have been instructed to investigate Greenland's movement towards independence and its opinions on US resource extraction interests. In response, Denmark has called on the top US diplomat in the country for an explanation.
Prime Minister Frederiksen criticized these reports, labeling them as mere 'rumours' published by an international newspaper. The Wall Street Journal based its story on two unidentified sources familiar with the situation.
