A Delhi court has granted bail to 10 leaders of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), including prominent figures like Derek O'Brien and Sagarika Ghose. The case pertains to their participation in a protest staged outside the Election Commission of India in April last year, despite prohibitory orders being in place.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Mittal extended this relief on personal bonds of Rs 10,000 each to MPs O'Brien, Haque, Gokhale, Sagarika, Arpita, and Bishwas. The rest were granted bail with the addition of a surety of like amount, following an application by their lawyer.
The protest, which was against what the party alleges is the BJP-led Centre's misuse of central probe agencies, was staged without the requisite permissions. The TMC leaders have denied any wrongdoing, and the case is slated for its next hearing on May 21.
