Tensions Rise as Opposition Protests Bihar's Electoral Roll Revision

The Election Commission has stated that no political parties have approached them to amend Bihar's draft electoral roll, which is open for objections. In a tense political atmosphere, opposition parties conducted a protest march over Bihar's special electoral roll revision. Despite the uproar, the Election Commission asserted that no party had sought changes to the draft voters' list in the state.

Parties and individuals have until September 1 to file claims and objections to the draft roll. As of now, the EC has only received requests from individual electors. Between August 1 and August 11, no political party has approached the Commission regarding changes.

Prominent figures Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge led Monday's protest from Parliament to the Election Commission, claiming the revision intends to disenfranchise voters. The EC, however, justifies the exercise, highlighting the presence of non-eligible and duplicate voters in the current rolls.
