Uttarakhand Congress MLAs intensified their protests on Tuesday, demanding an urgent discourse on accusations of election rigging during the recent panchayat votes and worsening law-and-order conditions. Their demonstrations continued unabated, even after the state assembly session was adjourned for the day.
The Congress legislators initiated their sit-in protest from the first day of the Monsoon session, persisting even after the assembly proceedings concluded in the evening. Lakhpat Singh Butola, a Congress MLA from Badrinath, revealed that Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan visited the protesting legislators. However, a discussion with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has not yielded any satisfactory solutions.
Joining the Congress MLAs in their protest is Umesh Kumar, an independent MLA from Haridwar, who also voices concerns over the alleged election rigging. The clamor for an assembly discussion has repeatedly disrupted proceedings, causing the House to be adjourned multiple times.
