Nepal's ousted prime minister K P Sharma Oli has refuted claims that his government ordered a shootout during the 'Gen Z' protests on September 8, which resulted in at least 19 deaths. The chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) attributes the tragedy to infiltrators.
"The government did not order the shooting of demonstrators," Oli stated on Constitution Day. He suggested that automatic weapons, not in police possession, were used against protesters, urging a thorough investigation. Oli asserted that infiltrators turned peaceful protests violent, leading to the casualties.
Oli expressed sorrow for the loss of lives and called for a probe. He also mentioned the unrest after his resignation, which included the burning of government buildings and Nepal's map. Despite these challenges, he emphasized unity in protecting national sovereignty and the Constitution.
