In a strategic move to counter the ruling BJP in the upcoming 2027 state assembly polls, leaders from Goa's Opposition parties, including the Congress, Goa Forward Party (GFP), and Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP), have come together. The alliance seeks to present a united front against the BJP's current dominance in the 40-member assembly.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao from Congress emphasized the importance of unity among parties, citing a 34% vote share for the BJP versus a 66% collective share for opposition parties in past elections. The event, held at Fatorda on the eve of Diwali, was organized by an organization mentored by GFP chief Vijai Sardesai and attracted a large crowd.
Speakers at the event expressed concern over the BJP's governance and cautioned against the division of votes. They also urged the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to reconsider its decision to stay independent. The gathering was marked by calls for defending Goan culture and identity against perceived misrule by the BJP.
