Ukraine Launches ATACMS in Russia: A Bold New Chapter
Ukraine's military confirmed striking Russian targets with U.S.-supplied ATACMS missiles. This marks the first public acknowledgment of using these systems abroad since restrictions were lifted by the Biden administration in 2024. Ukraine has also expressed interest in acquiring Tomahawk missiles to press Russia into negotiations.
In a significant military development, Ukraine announced on Tuesday that it had deployed U.S.-supplied ATACMS missiles against military targets in Russia. This marks the first time Kyiv has publicly acknowledged using these advanced ballistic missile systems across its borders, following a lifting of restrictions.
The Biden administration had removed the previous limitations on these missile systems in late 2024, a decision initially met with criticism by then-successor Donald Trump. This advancement in military strategy illustrates a robust shift in Ukraine's defense tactics.
Moreover, Ukraine has expressed interest in acquiring U.S.-made Tomahawk missiles, which boast a range of 2,500 km, arguing that these long-range weapons could push Russia towards negotiations. However, Trump, while initially open to the idea, later expressed reluctance to proceed with the sale.
