The Election Commission has taken decisive steps to ensure the integrity of electoral rolls in West Bengal by appointing retired IAS officer Subrata Gupta as the Special Roll Observer. Gupta's role will include monitoring the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise to guarantee comprehensive and accurate voter registration.
In addition to Gupta, twelve IAS officers have been designated as Electoral Roll Observers. Their responsibility is to oversee the preparation of electoral rolls in various districts, working closely with District Election Officers (DEOs) and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) to make necessary corrections and improvements.
These appointments cover a wide geographical area, with officers assigned to districts such as Paschim Bardhaman, Purba Bardhaman, Murshidabad, Malda, and more. This strategic move aims to ensure no eligible voter is excluded and no ineligible individual is registered, thereby fortifying the democratic process.
