The Congress party launched a fresh critique against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's governance, deploying the catchy phrase 'DDLJ moments'—distort, defame, lie, justify. This critique coincided with Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol unveiling a statue in London celebrating their iconic film, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh accused the government of economic manipulation and stifling dissent, alleging GDP figures were inflated and independent voices were silenced through legal intimidation. Ramesh also highlighted how social media and traditional media narratives were governed by falsehoods, polarizing communities.
In addition, Ramesh called out what he termed as government justifications for controversial actions such as the Rs 8,000 crore electoral bonds issue, interference with the Election Commission, and intrusive surveillance measures, framing these as deliberate strategies for maintaining control and restricting democratic processes.
