In the suspense-laden presidential race in Honduras, conservative candidate Nasry Asfura, with backing from U.S. President Donald Trump, maintains a slender lead as the vote count extends into a sixth day.
With 86.54% of ballots counted, Asfura, representing the National Party, has secured 40.21% of votes, slightly ahead of Salvador Nasralla of the Liberal Party at 39.48%. The CNE is reviewing 14% of ballots for inconsistencies.
The election, monitored closely by global observers, has seen Trump openly support Asfura, aiming to bolster a conservative alliance in Latin America. Meanwhile, Honduras remains poised as final results are awaited.
