A devastating drone attack by Sudanese paramilitary units has resulted in a tragic incident at a kindergarten in south-central Sudan, claiming the lives of 50 people, including 33 children, according to a doctors' group. The strike occurred in the town of Kalogi, South Kordofan state.
Tragically, paramedics attending the scene were assaulted in a subsequent, unexpected attack. This violent incident is part of ongoing clashes between the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese military, a conflict that has persisted for over two years, now concentrated in the oil-rich Kordofan states.
UNICEF's Sheldon Yett condemned the violence, calling for an immediate cessation of attacks and safe access for humanitarian aid. The conflict has resulted in numerous civilian deaths across Kordofan, with UN officials warning of potential new atrocities akin to those in el-Fasher.
