Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday dismissed allegations from the opposition UDF that his party, the CPI(M), has maintained a longstanding political alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami. Vijayan asserted that neither the CPI(M) nor the LDF had any historical association with the Muslim organization.
He pointed out that the Jamaat-e-Islami started participating in elections only from 1987, and at that time they had explicitly refused to support Marxist groups, indicating their preference for the Congress. Vijayan also mentioned that the Congress's government had once prohibited Jamaat-e-Islami, signaling the complexities in their relationship.
Vijayan accused the Congress and Jamaat-e-Islami of engaging in opportunistic politics and criticized their communal tactics. He called their alleged alliance with the Jamaat-e-Islami politically suicidal, making a stronger case for CPI(M)'s non-association with the group.
