A tragic drone strike by Sudanese paramilitary forces targeting a kindergarten in south-central Sudan has claimed the lives of 50 people, of which 33 were children, according to a trusted medical group.
The incident, occurring in the town of Kalogi, was part of a series of attacks reportedly carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) amidst ongoing conflict with the Sudanese military. Medics treating survivors were also targeted, further darkening an already dire humanitarian crisis, said the Sudan Doctors' Network.
International condemnation followed swiftly; the attack is labeled a blatant violation of laws protecting civilians, especially children. The latest violence threatens to escalate already devastating conflict across Sudan's Kordofan states, with fears that the death toll may be higher due to telecommunication blackouts.
