The campaigning for the first phase of Kerala's local body elections, viewed as a precursor to the Assembly elections next year, will wrap up on Sunday. The Election Commission has organized extensive arrangements for voting set on December 9 across seven districts.
These southern districts include Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam, which will witness voting on Tuesday for the initial phase. The remaining districts' voters will cast their votes on December 11.
According to the Election Commission, over 1.32 crore people are eligible to vote, deciding the fate of over 75,000 candidates across more than 23,000 wards. Results for all 1,199 local bodies will be announced on December 13, as major political fronts compete amid corruption allegations and development promises.
