US Approves $686 Million F-16 Support Package for Pakistan

The United States has sanctioned an advanced technology package for Pakistan's F-16 fighter jets, with an estimated value of $686 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) informed Congress of the approval, reported Dawn.

The package includes Link–16 systems, cryptographic tools, avionics updates, and extensive logistical support. This initiative aims at aligning Pakistan's defense capabilities with US policy goals by facilitating interoperability with US and allied forces. It also focuses on modernizing the F-16 fleet, addressing safety issues, and preparing for future contingencies.

The DSCA noted Pakistan's ability to integrate these updates effectively, ensuring the transaction will not disrupt regional military balance. With $37 million allocated for defense equipment and $649 million for auxiliary items, the sale is positioned to foster secure and effective operation of Pakistan's aircraft until 2040.
