Senior Congress leader Nana Patole has accused the Maharashtra government of actively shielding corrupt individuals, including Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's son, Parth Pawar. Patole voiced his concerns at the Vidhan Bhavan during the state's winter legislature session, pointing specifically to a controversial land deal in Pune.
The Bombay High Court has raised serious concerns about the police investigation into the land deal involving Parth Pawar. Evidence suggests he was a majority partner in the firm that acquired government land in Pune without the required permissions, including a significant tax evasion of Rs 21 crore in stamp duty.
Patole also criticized the state government's handling of corruption cases, citing the instance of a Mumbai municipal commissioner accused of corruption during the COVID outbreak, who was merely placed on leave. He expressed dismay at the lack of attention legislators are showing towards legislative work amid potential political alliances.
